Habilitas Foundation (Formerly MAB-MacKay)
Every year we meet with the staff of the MAB-Mackay Rehabilitation Centre and its Foundation (Habilitas Foundation) to hear about a project in need of financial support.
To date, our donations have funded:
- The purchase of a Tobii Dynavox: a tablet with eye-tracker capability, which enables children with physical disabilities to control a computer with their eyes. It helps children who are non-verbal gain the ability to communicate and engage with their families and the world around them.
- The set-up of a “Smart Room” with training tools and technology that make it possible for people who are blind or visually impaired to carry out everyday tasks at work, school, and home.
- A three-year project to equip the new Early Intervention Clinic (EIC) with the tools required to perform assessments of young children with a disability. This allows the multi-disciplinary therapy team to evaluate if the child has a sensory or motor impairment or has autism spectrum disorder. The EIC helps to reduce the waitlist for services and increase the number of young children treated.
- The purchase of adapted therapy bicycles used for assessment, therapy, and training for children with motor and coordination disabilities. Most importantly, it provides access to a classic childhood activity that is too often out of reach for many children with disabilities.
